Following the latest concerns raised by the HRW and other agencies the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has issued a press release pledging full support for the free media. and condemning  the acts that threaten the freeedom of speech, directly implying the unprofessional actions of Infopress.

Below is the full text of the press release issued yesterday.

"The Government of the Republic of Kosovo strongly supports the freedom of expression and the functioning of a free and independent press in the Republic of Kosovo.

The freedom of expression is guaranteed by the highest legal act of the country – the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, and by other legal acts.

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo considers the media to be an important partner in deepening its commitment to the concept of good, transparent and effective governance, and to building functional and responsible institutions; in the interest of the citizens of Kosovo.

In this context, from the start of its mandate, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo initiated a transparent approach regarding its work for public opinion, even opening its meetings to all media; sending a strong message to the public about its concrete actions.

All isolated occasions when the freedom of expression is threatened are punishable by the government. They do not represent the vision and dedication of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo to the development of democracy, the defense of free speech and for an independent media.

" All isolated occasions when the freedom of expression is threatened are punishable by the government" ok. So now they might have understood the freedom of expression angle, we have to do another lecture on the criticial separation of the judiciary and the government. The government should have no right to "punish"!

Why do some people automatically assume that a NEW country has to be perfect? Everybody in this world knows that every new country that is or ever has been once in history has gone or will undergo tremendous changes and will fight or has fought corruption or whatnot to BRING justice.

If some people think that they can expect everything to be perfect overnight, they are only dreaming. I don't believe in dreams, so expect me to say that reality is well...REALITY.

Sorry, had to "vent" for a moment per some comments I have read on other sites.

Freedom of speech; I am very pro. I assume almost everyone is. I hope Kosovo can in the coming future wok toward bringing freedom of speech and enforcing it rather than ignore it and bring corruption to it.
