BKUK (National and University Library of Kosovo) is participating for the third time at the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions General Conference. This year, three representatives from Kosovo will be participating: Prof. Dr. and BKUK Director Sali Bashota, MCYS Director of Culture Piraj Sami, and Chairman of the Association of Libraries of Kosovo, Besim Kokollari.
The World Library and Information Congress 2009, 75th IFLA General Conference and Assembly, will take place in the Fiera Milano Convention Centre (MIC), Milan, Italy from August 23-27 of this year.
The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) provides information specialists throughout the world with a forum for exchanging ideas and promoting international cooperation, research, and development in all fields of library activity and information service. IFLA is the world's largest association at the international level for merging libraries and other organizations dealing with information.
National and University Library of Kosovo, a cofounder of the Union of the Balkans Libraries, is a member of many international institutions such as ISBN, ISMN, elFL.net, etc. It maintains close cooperation with worldwide important libraries in Germany, the UK, the US, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Turkey, many Balkans countries, etc.
National and University Library is the nation's most important cultural institution and serves as the research center of the University of Prishtina and other important scientific and academic institutions in the Republic of Kosovo.
It has also submitted the application for full membership at IFLA last year which it has been accepted. The officials at BKUK and Association of Libraries of Kosovo have informed that IFLA during the conference will approve the procedures which Kosovo should implement to gain full admission to this institution.
