Kosovo has a European future and we will help to achieve its aspirations, Portugese Defence Minister Nuno Severiano Teixeira told Republic of Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu.
"The Republic of Kosovo institutions and it's citizens appreciate the high continuous support that Portugal has given to our country," President Fatmir Sejdiu said during a meeting he held Monday with Nuno Severiano Teixeira, Portugal Minister of Defense Portugal. Teixeira stressed that Kosovo has a European future and that his country will continue to help Kosovo to realize its aspirations. "We are impressed with the general developments and positive changes have occurred in the Republic of Kosovo during the past few years, but also ask that you make them clear to everyone that your country will not tolerate extremist actions that conflict with the European principles, "he said.
In the light of thanking Portugal, and Minister Teixeira personally, for recognizing the Republic of Kosovo, President Sejdiu said that the Republic of Kosovo is commited to work in deepening the mutual relations between the two countries. Portugal recognized Kosovo's independence last year.
Back in 2008, Minister Teixeria visited the Republic of Kosovo and met with President Sejdiu where he offered support to the Republic of Kosovo's Security Force, stressing that "Portugal will be committed through its troops in KFOR to help the formation of the Kosovo Security Force, not only with its participation in battalions, but also with financial means.”
"We anticipate further special roles from Portugal in the recognition of Republic of Kosovo's independence," said Sejdiu, who again repeated that the Republic of Kosovo is a sovereign state for all it's citizens equally, regardless of their ethnicity, and aims to soon be a member of the European Union, NATO, and other international institutions.
Kosovo is a country located in Southeastern Europe.
