The Republic of Kosovo government shows that the priority in the field of education is the creation of quality and comprehensiveness. After instituting Private University, increasing the number of students in the university, and increasing salaries for the university professors, a very important decision has been issued. On Friday, Republic of Kosovo Prime Minister, Hashim Thaçi, has decided that a public university is to be established in Prizren, the second in the nation.

University of Prizren is expected to start student registration in the academic year of 2010-2011, with six majors such as Law, Economics, Teacher Education, Philology, Philosophy, and Arts. This is the second public university, with Prishtina University being the first, which was founded four decades ago.

Prime Minister Thaçi on an important meeting with the government and board of Education, said that the issue of education has been the main priority of Republic of Kosovo. He has mentioned that things are moving in the right direction during the 2008-2009 years, marking a period of intense movements in the accomplishments of the missions, where knowledge is a function of cultural, social, and economic development.

"Steps have been made for quality assurance in higher education, improving teaching conditions increasing the space for study and growth of salaries for university graduates. Based on these arguments and based on the population structure on the need for Republic of Kosovo to become a country that exports sufficient knowledge and skills, there should be public universities and other educational centers, " said Thaçi.
