In the framework of commitments and responsibilities that Kosovo state
has for European integration process, representatives of the Republic
of Kosovo Goverment hint that a decision is soon to be announced for the
establishment of the Ministry for European Integration.
The Republic of Kosovo Deputy Hajredin Kuçi told Radio Free Europe that in 2010 the new ministry is expected to start work.
"The Prime Minister, in a sign of engagement on the field of European integration, has decided to establish a ministry for European integration. We think that decision will be taken as soon as possible, on time and wanting to mainly focus on European integration for the country, which of course will also be closely coordinated with the legislative body, "he said.
For visa liberalization and integration into the European Union, Deputy Prime Minister Kuçi stressed the need for a greater commitment of Kosovar state institutions. He expressed belief that the creation of the Ministry for Integration will facilitate the path towards the European Union.
Meanwhile, recently, there has been speculation that the Ministry of Integration will be headed by former Kosovo Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi and current mayor of Mitrovica. Rexhepi said he appreciates the formation of this ministry and is awaiting an invitation to run it.
"There are rumors about it with my name being mentioned. It is known that as prime minister I have begun the process of Stabilization and Association Tracking Mechanism ... I expect to see the Ministry established, if the Prime Minister, the Republic of Kosovo Government gives me an offer, I will gladly accepted it "said Rexhepi.
Currently, the only institution competent to handle the process of EU integration of Kosovo is the Agency for Coordination, Development and European Integration, which operates within the Office of the Prime Minister Thaçi.
