ImageThe United States Ambassador to the Republic of Kosovo, Christopher Dell, in a media statement issued regarding the elections said that "Kosovo and its citizens can be very proud today.  Kosovo’s voters, its politicians, and the officials charged with organizing and managing the elections demonstrated that to the world that an independent Kosovo is a place where democracy can and does flourish."

"I commend the many citizens of Kosovo who took time out of their day to go to the polls, and exercise their democratic rights.  Your votes underscored that an active and engaged citizenry is critical to a healthy democracy.  I encourage you to remain engaged once the ballots are counted and the results are announced and to hold your new municipal leadership accountable," said Ambassador Dell.

The U.S. Ambassador also thanked the Kosovar Serb community for courage to participate in local elections in the Republic of Kosovo.

"To the many Kosovar Serbs who voted yesterday, I commend your decision to participate and your courage.  You rightly recognized that the elections provided you with a unique opportunity to shape your future and the future of your communities.  The United States looks forward to continuing to work with you to fulfill the promise inherent in these elections.
I commend the political parties and politicians for running spirited and generally incident-free campaigns based on real issues, such as schools, the economy, and municipal services that truly matter to your constituents.  The winners have an obligation to govern transparently and to make decisions that advance their constituents’ aspirations to live in democratic, multiethnic and prosperous Kosovo," emphasized Dell.

The American diplomat also thanked the organizers for the management of successful elections.

"Finally, I commend the Central Election Commission and its Chairwoman Nesrin Lushta for their organization and management of the elections.  U.S. Embassy election monitors, who joined EU teams and other international and local monitors in the field yesterday, were impressed with the professionalism of the CEC and of poll workers and their diligence and respect for the law in defense of the integrity of the ballot.  We share the views of these and other observing organizations that the elections generally met international standards," added the U.S. Ambassador.

"Congratulations to all the people of Kosovo on this tremendous success.  You should be proud of your success, and we are proud of you," concluded the Ambassador in his statement issued to the media by the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Kosovo.
