Malawi recognizes Kosovo independence

Republic of Malawi recognizes the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, says the note verbale sent by the Republic of Malawi Foreign Ministry to Kosovo MFA via the General Consulate of the Republic of Kosovo in New York.

"The Republic of Kosovo Foreign Affairs Minister Hyseni was informed today via a note verbale from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Malawi to the United Nations which was sent by the Malawi Foreign Ministry to the Republic of Kosovo Foreign Ministry via its General Consulate in New York, that Republic of Malawi, on December 14, 2009, has recognized the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state," says the communique issued by the Kosovo MFA.

Republic of Malawi is the 64th state that has recognized the Republic of Kosovo. Malawi is located in southern Africa. Its size is over 118,000 km² with an estimated population of more than 13,900,000. Its capital is Lilongwe, the biggest city is Blantyre. The name Malawi comes from the Maravi, an old name of the Nyanja people that inhabit the area.
