Over 100 countries in the world have declared independence like Kosovo throughout the 18th,19th and 20th century. This includes its main opponent, Serbia, and which Kosovo was never part of.
Declaration of independence is a political act based on people's will and its democratically elected officials by the people of such territory.
Recognition of Kosovo is a sovereign political decision of a democratically elected governing body, acknowledging reality in the ground, offering peace and prosperity to all parties.
While the non-biding advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice is expected to be given on Thursday regarding the declaration of Kosovo's independence, most of the world's nations, that have recognized Kosovo believe the ICJ's decision is irrelevant or will be in favor of declaration of Kosovo's independence or and should refrain from giving any opinion since it is a purely political act.
Serbia, as one of the strongest disputers, its foreign ministry has numerous times emphasized the decision as an irrelevant if it doesn't satisfy its interests, a hint of just buying time.
European Union officials have spoken openly against any discussion of the already resolved status of Kosovo, now a sovereign and independent nation in the Balkans.
Both American, European and influential Muslim nations in the world like Turkey and Saudi Arabia, have said that the political status of Kosovo is resolved.
The independence of Kosovo is not something that is controlled by international law' but is' fundamentally a political move ... which states individually decide whether to recognize or no, " said recently the officials of the United States Government.
In addition, it said that "none of the 100 declarations of independence announced like Kosovo throughout the world have been judged to have violated international law and neither Kosovo's independence", was said in the statement.
So far, the Republic of Kosovo has been recognized by 70 UN countries in the World. Over 20 of them have recognized since the International Court of Justice's hearing for a non-biding advisory opinion on Kosovo's declaration of independence.
