Serbia conceded to ditch its first draft-resolution and submit a new one to the UN which directly recognizes the ICJ's decision on Kosovo's independence given on July 22. The ICJ ruled that Kosovo's independence is not illegal and does not violate the international law. The move comes last minutes before the draft-resolution will be ready out for vote at the UN General Assembly.

Serbia in its first draft resolution that was submitted hastily at UN GA last month, attempted to challenge, question Kosovo's statehood and simultaneously contradict the ICJ's decision seeking further negotiations on Kosovo's status. But, Serbia dropped out the draft-resolution after Brussels also backed by Washington put strong pressure on Serbia to concede and acknowledge the reality of Kosovo's independence.

The U-turn occurred after one week of diplomatic pressure on Serbia from the EU's powerful and amongst the influential states, France, Germany and the UK. Certainly, Serbia acknowledged the danger of isolation but still went dragging its declaration of capitulation. Serbia to save face, introduced a new resolution, by ditching the old one. The new draft-resolution that recognizes the UN's court decision to accept Kosovo's independence.

At least the European Union spoke with one word, said one diplomat.  This was a huge success for EU's diplomatic policy which was always divided on Kosovo's independence.

Immediate reaction comes from Brussels who greeted Serbia's move to drop challenging Kosovo's independence. While, some of the Serba's opposition calling it capitulation, the rest have called the move as salvation. A recent poll shows that majority of people in Serbia know and understand the fact that Kosovo is independent and sovereign functioning state.
