Central Election Commission

The Central Election Commission of Kosovo aims to organize the revote for the parliamentary elections in Mitrovica's Northern part as well.

Although only a small number of Serbs in the North came to the polls on December 12 parliamentary elections, CEC officials say that this week they will prepare the plan for the re-run in the North of the Ibar River.

Chief Executive Officer of CEC, Xhemajl Peqani has informed that for the revote of January 23rd in Mitrovica, they expect to open 127 polling stations in over 30 polling centers, of which 2 will be openend in areas inhabited by Serbs.

"There are three polling stations for the Bosnian Community in the North, and the maximum will be one or two other stations for the areas where ther Serbs live" he was cited as saying.

Prior to the parliamentary elections in December last year, Serbian authorities had assessed that conditions were not right for Kosovo Serbs to participate in the elections organized by Pristina.

Despite this message, in the central areas inhabited by Serbs, a record number of citizens decided to hit the polls, marking the highest number of Serbs voting since the end of the war in Kosovo.
