Kosovo Police continues to seize all new Serbian plates containing initials of cities of the Republic of Kosovo, despite Belgrade's request to put an end to the practice, Telegraf informs.
Regional spokesperson of the Kosovo Police, Besim Hoti, said on Monday that they are carrying on with the execution of the order given days ago by outgoing Minister of Internal Affairs, Bajram Rexhepi. The spokesperson said the police has seized at least two pairs of licence plates so far, and that for drivers of vehicles carrying such plates, a court proceeding will be initiated. This because laws applied in the Republic of Kosovo do not recognize the new plates issued by Serbia.
On the other hand, all drivers whose licence plates are confiscated, can be equipped with temporary ones by the Kosovo Border Police.
EULEX has called both parties to remain calm and avoid tensions raised after the recent situation. Serbian authorities have asked EULEX to intervene and revoke Minister Rexhepi's decision.
