EU to Serbia: Recognize Kosovo First

  • PDF
Ulrike Lunacek

European Parliament's rapporteur for Kosovo, Ulrike Lunacek has stated that it supports Serbia's rapprochement to the European Union, but - according to her - Serbia must first recognize Kosovo's independence.

"Prior to Serbia's final admission, this issue should be clarified. Serbia should recognize Kosovo's independence. I hope that this will happen soon, which would ease the situation for both Kosovo and the European Union", said Lunacek.

She stated that in the future countries that do not recognize other states will not be admitted to the EU. "There will be no such cases after Cyprus, as I am sure the European Union has already learned that lesson", said rapporteur Lunacek.
