Ashton Invites Marty To Bring Charges Before EULEX

Catherine Ashton

EU's chief diplomat, Catherine Ashton, said that there is no need for additional prosecutors, because EULEX has already enough independent prosecutors working in the region.

Ashton made these comments after Human Rights Watch demanded EU to appoint an independent prosecutor in Kosovo to investigate allegations in the charges of Council of Europe's rapporteur, Dick Marty.

Ashton added that Marty would have to provide more evidence before new investigations can be initiated.

"Every prosecutor has to base the investigation on the evidence presented during the trial. If indeed Mr. Marty, or anyone else, has found substantial evidence of criminal activity, we would encourage him to bring them forward to the relevant authorities, including EULEX", said Ashton./zeri/
