Updated

Three people were reported to have been killed and hundreds of others injured during today's violent demonstrations in Albania's capital, Tirana.

A number of police forces were also injured in the clashes.

In a live press conference which is taking place now, Prime Minister Sali Berisha put a direct blame on opposition leader Edi Rama for the violent protests and the unrest that has engulfed the capital. Berisha stated that Skender Gjinushi and Gramoz Ruci are also part of Edi Rama's group, responsible for what is happening in the capital.

He also said that Rama orchestrated the events in such a way as to take the turn of the recent events in Tunisia, aiming at creating mass unrest, which eventually resulted in the deaths of three citizens.

During the conference, it is being said that the lives of the innocent people were not taken by the guns of the police force, but by guns which protesters must have brought with them.

Earlier today

The opposition demonstates today in Albania, to vioce their requests to overthrow Prime Minister Sali Berisha's government, and ask for early elections to be held.

The majority accuses the opposition that they intend to take power by force, while the opposition wants Berisha's removal and new elections.

The events are being carefully observed by the international community.

U.S. Embassy in Tirana issued a statement yesterday saying that they support all kinds of protests, as long as they are not violent and respect the institutions. /koha ditore/
