During today's session of the Assembly of the Council of Europe, in his initial appearance, Marty said that “the report has nothing to do with Kosovo’s political status, Kosovo's relationship with Serbia, and is in no way against the people of Kosovo and Albanians in general”.
According to him, the report deals with “human rights violations”.
“When the report was published, I noted that it should be read carefully, and that the words in it must be understood as they are written, without other implications”, Marty said, estimating that based on media reports and certain politicians’ reactions, his recommendation was ignored.
“It is true that I could have avoided using names in my report, but then it would be an overall assessment, and the whole nation would be offended”, he said. According to him, the truth and intellectual sincerity, the respect for the Albanian people and families of the victims “ask from us to name the things that we say”.
“These are names that have been cited for many years in various documents compiled by police forces, secret services of several countries, not to mention the newspaper articles that were written by highly respected journalists”, he said.
He claimed that he based the contents of his report on witnesses’ accounts. “Yes, we have found witnesses, yes they are credible witnesses, they have enabled us to be precise and exactly this is what scares certain circles”, he added, denying that these witnesses have links with Serbs or Russians. /zeri/
