Construction of Kosovo highway to begin in two months

ImageIn three years Kosovars will have their motorway, linking their capital Prishtina with the Albanian border and further with the Albanin port of Durres. This has been announced by the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Fatmir Limaj after the meeting of the inter-ministerial committee for the construction of Prishtina-Vërmice motorway, where it was also decided to announce the final bid for the selection of the company to carry out the biggest road project in Kosovo. The work should start no later than two months after the opening of the bid.

“We are continuing to be on track with the works dynamic. We have decided today to open the bid for beginning of construction. This will finally result in the winner of the Prishtina-Vermice motorway construction,” said Limaj in a press conference following the inter-ministerial committee meeting.

The offer, which is valid for seven pre-qualified companies, according to Limaj will be open for 30 days starting from today.

The members of committee during this meeting have approved some of criteria which are going to be the basis for the offer. “Paperwork for the offer has been prepared in line with highest international standards,” said Limaj.

The winning company according to him will be selected based on the procurement criteria starting from the collection points of the most favorable price and the most technically favourable criteria.

The start of the works is another added criteria. According to the offer package, the company should be ready to start the works in the construction of highway 30 days from signing of the contract. “The timeframe for construction work has been foreseen to last no more than 36 months. This is the real term for completing the motorway”, said Limaj.

Kosovo to benefit over E100 million from EU's pre-ascension instrument in 2009

ImageEuropean Commission Liaison Office in Prishtina announced that Republic of Kosovo is expected to receive over E100 million through European Union's pre-ascension instrument in 2009.

The official agreement for this amount will be signed by the chief of the European Commission Liaison Office in Kosovo, Renzo Daviddi, and Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci on Friday, September 25.

In 2007 the IPA funds for Kosovo were over 68 million euros, which was increased in 2008 to about 185 million, while for the next three years it is expected to be about 70 million euros per year. IPA helps candidate status countries (Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey) and countries with potential candidate status (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo).

This instrument has entered into force on 1 January 2007, replacing pre-ascension financial instruments  of the 2000-06 period: PHARE, ISPA, SAPARD, the Turkish financial instrument and the financial instrument for the Western Balkans CARDS.

IPA program helps countries in transition with institution building, cross-border cooperation, regional development, human resource development and rural development. the last three are for the candidate countries and reflect the EU structural funds, while the potential candidates can benefit from similar measures implemented through components for transition assistance and institution building.

Directorate General for Enlargement of the European Commission is responsible for coordinating the overall Pre-ascension Assistance, and management of IPA funds in Kosovo is carried out by the European Commission Liaison Office.

KEP Trust celebrates 10 years of success in Kosovo

ImageKEP Trust (Kosovo Enterprise Program) marks ten years of success in the Republic of Kosovo, a decade that financially helped small businesses throughout Kosovo. A press conference will be covering the event and an opportunity will be given to get acquainted with the achievements of KEP during the last ten years.

Their goals for the future are built in function to further economic development of Republic of Kosovo. The event will include various personalities and key businesses, representatives of the Republic of Kosovo, Finance partners, and clients who have KEP main contributors to their success during the last ten years.

To ensure the long term sustainability of KEP and to further expand its outreach in accordance with vision of the Organization, KEP Board has decided to transform KEP into a bank.

KEP is a leading, socially driven, commercially viable microfinance institution or MFI in the Republic of Kosovo. Started in 1999 as a project of the International Catholic Migration Commission, KEP has since been transformed into a locally registered, financially self-sufficient MFI providing access to financial services to low and moderate income micro and small entrepreneurs who have been affected by the War. KEP provides services to returning nationals and refugees in its effort to contribute to the rebuilding of war-torn communities in the Republic of Kosovo.  KEP makes a special effort to target women entrepreneurs and minorities.

MTI in Italy promoting the investment climate in Kosovo

ImageIn the premises of the palace of Veronato fairs in Verona, Italy, was held conference "Kosovo new country, new opportunities", where Kosovar delegation from the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Republic of Kosovo, respectively Deputy Kastrati presented the participants the good opportunities and favorable offers for Kosovo investments.

In the wake of this visit, the delegation of the MTI, headed by Deputy Trade and Industry, Mr. Januz Kastrati, with collaborators, is promoting Kosovo as a new state for investment and met leaders of the Venetos region institutions, respectively Veronas, including meetings with the business community. 
  
During the first session of the conference "Kosovo new country, new opportunities", held in Veronamercato, Kosovar delegation presented opportunities for investment that offers Kosovo in various fields with economic interest.

The delegation was meeting with Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Enroco Corsi, who pledged direct support and economic cooperation between the two business communities of both countries.  

Also, the delegation met with Speaker of Chamber of Commerce Veronas, Mr. Alessandro Bianchi, who has pledged support and business support for Kosovo in general.

On this visit is important to expect  making of new contracts of cooperation between Kosovo and Italian businessmen.

Kosovo and Japan to strengthen economic cooperation

ImageDeputy Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Bedri Hamza, along with his associates, hosted today in a visit a delegation of Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) headed by Azukizawa Eigo, Director for Southeast Europe.

At this meeting, Mr. Hamza thanked the Japanese Government and people for the assistance provided to our country so far as in the phase of reconstruction, economic development, recognizing the independence of our country, and now finally in the process of membership to the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

While the Japanese representatives expressed their interest and willingness to enhance cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, by identifying initially sectors in which they could provide help in the form of technical assistance, grants and concession loans.
