Big companies interested in Kosovo ski resort

Prishtina, 27 September 2007 - After the approval of the UN Legal Office in New York, the Kosovo Trust Agency (KTA) is preparing the privatisation of Brezovica ski resort. “The bid will be announced by using the special spin-off method and the opening of offers will be in the beginning of next year,” stated Ekrem Tahiri, KTA spokesman. According to him, the price will be determined by the market. The assets of the complex will all be in one tender and include the skiing center, three hotels and two restaurants. “We hope that some of five big groups that are interested will be part of the competition for the complex,” said Tahiri.

11,5 millions investment for "Xella"

Lypjan, 26 September 2007 - The brick factory in Lypjan “Xella” has started with the production of “Silka” bricks. The factory is a €11,5 million investment of “Xella International” and “Haro Trade”. “Xella will produce Silka construction bricks by using local raw material and processing it by German technology,” said Samir Krasniqi, director of “Xella Kosovo” in the inauguration ceremony.

Airport concession following the status

Prishtina, 20 September 2007 - The Pristina International Airport will not be given in concession before the Kosovo status is solved, even though government officials have started with the preparations of the process. The Minister of Economy and Finance, Haki Shatri, also member of the Steering Committee on the Airport concession, said the Committee is not in a hurry for the airport. “The Airport Committee has hired experts. We have received orientations which will be the best for the Airports future. We are not in a hurry, but we are not late either. We have reached an agreement with UNMIK and Pillar IV, which encourages us to move forward. We will not make uncoordinated steps,” said Minister Shatri.

Privatization of ski resort in Kosovo: information event

Vienna, 20 September 2007 - The Kosovo Trust Agency (KTA), responsible for the privatization process in Kosovo, has announced its intention to privatize Kosovo's ski resort Brezovica by the end of 2007. The ski resort in the south of Kosovo is one of the biggest in the region. With slopes between 1.700 and 2.500 meters above sea level, Brezovica offers excellent weather and snow conditions as well as long ski seasons. Ski slopes of Brezovica are also registered with International Ski Federation (FIS).

The resort offered for privatization also includes 3 hotels with 680 rooms, 2 Restaurants and 6 ski lifts with transport capacity of 10.000 skiers per hour. Through its proximity to Prishtina Airport (60 km) and Skopje Airport (70 km), the resort is a possible destination for international tourists and has potential to become the most favourable winter tourism destination in the Balkans.

In order to inform potential investors in detail about this great investment opportunity, the Economic Initiative for Kosova (ECIKS), as the official representative of Investment Promotion Agency of Kosovo (IPAK) in Vienna, in cooperation with Kosovar Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), IPAK, Kosovo Trust Agency (KTA) and Raiffeisen Zentralbank is organizing an information event on 7 November 2007 in the building of Raiffeisen Zentralbank in Vienna, Am Stadtpark 9, A-1030 (exact begin hour to be announced later)

Representatives of the MTI, IPAK, KTA and ECIKS will inform potential investors about specifics, capacities and potentials of the Skiing Resort Brezovica as well as about the privatization process in general, rules of tender, business and investment climate in Kosovo, etc.

PAK/ECIKS publishes new brochure in English

Vienna, 20 September 2007 - The Economic Initiative for Kosova (ECIKS), representing the Investment Promotion Agency of Kosovo (IPAK) in Vienna, has published the English version of the brochure "Company Foundation, Taxes and Employment Law in Kosovo".

The brochure, published with support of Wolff Theis, provides detailed information for foreign companies who are considering investing or entering the market in Kosovo. In addition, the brochure provides contact details of most important Kosovar institutions, business support institutions, insurance companies, etc.
