Head of EULEX mission to Kosovo Yves de Kermabon said that security is the main issue in Kosovo, adding that EULEX will be focusing on rule of law, police, justice and customs. He said the role of EULEX will differ from that of UNMIK even though the EU mission will also enjoy some executive powers.

“It may happen that there could be incapable, unprepared or even corrupt people in Kosovo institutions and we will have the authority to replace them,” de Kermabon said.

Kosovo’s independence is an important event for the stability of the entire region,” the paper quotes EU high Representative Javier Solana as saying, following his meeting with Albania’s Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha, whose country is the first one in the Balkans to recognize the independence of Kosovo.

Dailies report that Yves de Kermabon, chief of the ESDP mission in Kosovo, told AFP yesterday that 20 members of the new EU mission in Kosovo have already deployed and additional deployment will follow, only after further consultation with the United Nations.
