NEW YORK (AFP)--The U.N. Security Council is to meet Thursday at the request of Serbia and Russia to discuss plans by Kosovo's separatist leaders to declare independence from Serbia, diplomats said Wednesday.

But the diplomats said the meeting was unlikely change positions on either side of the issue.

"There will be a meeting (Thursday)," Libya's UN Ambassador Giadalla Ettalhi told reporters but added: "I cannot see any resolution or any outcome out of this meeting."

An official request has been lodged by Serbia for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council on Kosovo's moves to declare independence, reports here said Wednesday.

The Balkan country's UN ambassador, Pavle Jevremovic, sought the sitting because of "dangers" associated with Kosovo's plans to make a unilateral declaration of independence, said state-run RTS and private B92 television.

ZAGREB, CROATIA - The Croatian president Stjepan Mesic commented on the situation with ZERP (Protected Ecological Fishery Zone) on Croatian radio, as well as Kosovo’s expected declaration of independence and internal issues in the SDP (Social Democratic Party).
