Kosovo students organize entrepreneurship fair

ImageKosovar students with the financial help by Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized the entrepreneurship fair when 47 students' companies presented their creative work.
 
The fair was organized by NGO KS-Kosova and was financially supported by Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its Embassy in the Republic of Kosovo. Minister of Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj was present at the event.
 
In this fair are participating 216 students from high schools of Municipalities of Drenas, Kastriot, Fushë Kosovë, Kaçanik, Shtërpcë, Viti dhe Dardaneë and its purpose is that students to present results and products of one year project implemented by schools of seven municipalities.

Minister Hoxhaj stopped to every stand to see the students' creativity and talked with them for the work method presented.
 
"Today is a very special day. It is not a common companies' fair. What you see here is a learning method that enables students during one cycle to demonstrate the establishment of a business, business plan development, selection of leading bodies, and besides this the closing of these businesses that presents all phases how the establishment of a common company occurs..." said Minister Hoxhaj.

By emphasizing the importance of relation between education and technology, Minister mentioned the unemployment as one of main citizens' concerns, and said that in this way is enabling the removal of this concern and enables the creation of a society that is based on knowledge and economic development.

Minister Hoxhaj encouraged students to apply for registration on Higher Education, but as well he asked that a part of them to consider to involve directly in labor market, because as he said, Higher Education serves for this too, so in the future our country to be more developed as it is now.
"When I see these children, I see the future businessmen that will lead our country forward, and will contribute a lot in economic development" said Minister Hoxhaj.

Minister of Education said that, the purpose of this fair is that, along to this new culture of learning to have a successful entrepreneurship. He congratulated students for the work done, whereas thanked Norway's Ambassador to the Republic of Kosovo Sverre Johan Kvale who make it possible that these students' companies to think about a pragmatic work.

Ambassador Kvale said that he often heard the institutions representatives say that the young people are the power of this state, whereas he mentioned also the high unemployment especially at young. Therefore he emphasized the danger that can come from such a situation. "This is a good example that tells that the young are ready to do creative things that allows us to hope for the future", he said.

Kosovo's run off municipal election campaign kicks off

ImageThe Republic of Kosovo Central Election Commission (CEC) has made Friday certification of election results in 36 municipalities, meanwhile, has announced the second round of elections in other 21 municipalities, in which there was no winner of the first round held on 15 November.

The second round of mayoral elections in 21 municipalities will be held on December 13, while the election campaign will begin on Saturday, December 5, to continue until 11 December.

Kosovo Police to receive salary increase in January

ImageAs of January of next year, base salaries of police officers in Kosovo will receive an increase. The new system of wages is presented by the Kosovo Police and Ministry of Internal Affairs, and it includes pay raises for police employees depending on their ranks. Increases are said to be from 20 t0 200 euros. The higher increase of 200 euros will include various experts in the field such as forensics. The lower increase of 20 euros for night shifts, and this will depend on the nights the officers are on duty.

Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Zenun Pajaziti, said that this system of salary increase is foreseen by the 2010 draft, which has just been approved by the Assembly of Kosovo, and it includes an additional 3.5 million euros for the implementation of the new salary system. Minister Pajaziti has continued to add that if good police work is continued, increases will be continued.

Director of Kosovo Police, Sharma Ahmeti, has said that since the existence of the Kosovo Police, 1,254 police officers have left the field voluntarily due to low salary. The new wage system, Ahmeti has described, is a motivation to fight crime and other negative phenomena in society. The new salary is supported by the Kosovo Police Union.

Kosovo Justice Minister at conference on Balkans in Brussels

ImageOn the first day of inter-ministerial conference of Western Balkan of justice and home affairs issues, organized by the Swedish presidency of the rotating, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kosovo Mrs. Nekibe Kelmendi, took part in the discussion, in which dealt with themes of independence of the judiciary and prosecution, enhanced co-operation with Eurojust-in and the fight against corruption.

In her speech she said "under the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, the judicial system in Kosovo is unique and indivisible, is an independent and impartial and ensures equal access to the courts for all citizens of Kosovo".

Likewise, The Minister of Justice noted that the independence of the judiciary and prosecutors is guaranteed even under the operation of the Provisional Judicial prosecutorial Council and, a mechanism such that after adopting a package of laws, which will begin in justice reform , will be split between the judiciary and prosecution, with the establishment of the Judicial Council and Prosecutorial Council.

As for expanding cooperation with Eurojust-in, Minister Kelmendi raised the issue of the need for coordinating the work with specialized international organizations to combat transnational crime, such as the Interpol, Europol, the, Eurojust, , Frontex, the and implementation of the European order for arrest.

"Cooperation with these specialized organizations presents in itself a problem, so to avoid this problem I request to enable Kosovo the signing of a memorandum on mutual cooperation with concerned organizations on how to achieve the efficiency of the institutions of Kosovo in combating international crime, "added Minister Kelmendi.

Taking part in the session, which was treated in the fight against corruption, Minister of Justice began her discussion with  counting of all laws, which are aimed at preventing and combating corruption, as one of the challenges raised in the Progress report 2009. At once she mentioned that international crimes and the crime of corruption mainly are investigated and judged by, judges and prosecutors of  EULEX, set as their competence according to the special law on the jurisdiction and powers for the selection of cases by judges and prosecutors of EULEX in cooperation with local prosecutors and judges.

After the first day of the conference, at the request of its Minister of Justice was accepted by Jacques Barrot, vice president of the European Commission, Commissioner for Justice and Internal Affairs where they discussed the need for reforms in many areas and especially for reforms to the judiciary, Mr. Barrot stressed the need to strengthen the justice system as much, then strengthened immigration agreement with third countries, for which purpose promised sending a mission to Kosovo to support the reintegration of repatriated.

The Minister Kelmendi requested from  the Commissioner Baron that Kosovo also to be included in the liberalization of visa regime, justifying in details the need for liberalization of visas for citizens of Kosovo. Regarding visa liberalization Commissioner Barrot promised to Minister Kelmendi  that "they will be lobbing the lobby in some states to ease the criteria for issuing visas, especially for certain categories of citizens".
